About: Santa Maria is a traditional Mallorcan town in the Es Pla (central plain) of Mallorca, with views to the stunning nearby Tramuntana Mountain range. This market town offers a true insight into the real Mallorca based upon agriculture and artisans. The main street is peppered with spots to eat and filled with locals and tourists alike; the surrounding streets are filled with the traditional stone townhouses and hidden squares.
Santa Maria is a 20-minute drive from Palma airport.
From the Airport
Airport transfers or you can take a taxi from the airport (there are plenty in front of the arrivals building). However, if you plan to explore the island, we recommend that you hire a car.
Things to do & See
Almond Blossom: Mallorca is famous for February & March spectacular display of almond blossom.
Beaches: The central location of Santa Maria means that the many beaches along Palma Bay including Portixol, Platja Palma, Pere Antoni, Cala Mayor, Illetes or Puro Beach Club are within a 15-25 minute drive. The beautiful Port Soller in the ‘orange valley’ of Soller is a scenic 20 minute drive.
Cycling: Santa Maria’s situation on the edge of the central plain is popular with road cyclists, miles of wonderful road biking is at your feet. Note: Reads Hotel is a road cycling centre and offers ‘Giant’ bikes for rent and route maps.
Golf: Approximately 10 golf courses can be found within 20minutes of Santa Maria. Golf fans should not miss Son Vida or Son Gual golf courses.
Markets in Mallorca / Shopping: Sunday is market day in Santa Maria and attracts visitors from all over Mallorca for traditional wares, produce, clothes and some crafts. The market is held in the plaza closed to the iconic ‘blue tile roof’ church or simply follow the crowds. Market finishes at 14:00h.
Textiles: The traditional Majorcan fabric, known locally as “Telas de Lenguas” (fabric of flames) is still woven in Santa Maria. Visit the Artesania Textil Bujosa factory located on the main street: C/. Bernat de Santa Eugenia, 53, 07320 Santa María del Camí, Mallorca. Tel. 34 971620054.
Festival Park Shopping Centre / Outlet Mall: A short-drive from Santa Maria (10 minutes) includes shoe stores like the famous Spanish shoemakers Camper (from Mallorca) and Jaime Mascaro – Pretty Ballerina brand (from Menorca) to sportswear by Nike.
Pick up a bottle or two of Mallorcan wine from one of the 10 wineries in the region.
Palma de Mallorca: Spend the day in Palma (a 15-minute drive away, or 30-minute train ride from Santa Maria) where you can enjoy the historical sites including the Almudaina (Royal Palace), Gothic Cathedral, Plaza Major, Arab Baths or even Bellver Castle; shopping – we recommend Passeig des Born and the surrounding old town alleys (note: high street retailers such as Zara and Mango are up to 30% cheaper in Spain than the UK); fantastic restaurants – ask us!; a romantic stroll through the old town; or one of the city’s many free fiesta’s.

Walking in Mallorca: Whether you favour walking in the spectacular mountains or the gentler flatlands of the Es Pla, there are abundant walks in the area around Santa Maria. Route maps can be provided.
Wines of Mallorca: Santa Maria is surrounded by rural land, and is a wine producing region. The town is home to the Macia Batle vineyard. Macia Batle, on the outskirts of town on the Santa Maria – Consell – Binissalem road, is opening Monday – Friday and Saturday mornings for wine tastings and vineyard tours by a fun train.

Eating & Restaurants
Santa Maria provides a great opportunity to eat like a Mallorcan. We recommend experimenting with the great value ‘Menu Del Dia’ that is traditionally offered at lunchtime in local restaurants. For a fixed price of approx. 10-14Euros/pp you can select 2 or 3 courses inclusive of a drink. Pick the menu you like or follow the crowds…this is a great way to eat-like-a-local and experience the traditional island ‘farmer food’.
The excellent Reads Hotel Blues Brasserie is open every day, offering a la carte, a daily changing lunch menu (Menu del Dia), a Healthy Menu and regular paella/BBQ nights.
